Charity Number SC 047428
The Oban & Lorn Angling Club was founded in the 1940's but fell away in the fifties. In 1972 the club was reformed by a group of keen anglers to promote fly fishing links in the Lorn of Argyll with leases of seven lochs.
Today the club has leases to twenty-four lochs and nine boats on seven lochs with a further access to one bank of the River Awe below the weir on the Taynuilt side.
Our lochs vary from small puddles to large waters each having its own features containing mainly wild Brown Trout though there is a chance of catching an Artic Char in some of the lochs, also escaped Rainbow Trout, Perch & Pike in Loch Awe.
All wild trout respond to traditional fly patterns. Outboards to a maximum of 5hp allowed on most of the lochs.
The membership of the club stands at around 50 - 60 members with a further 13 Irish members who visit from Rathdrum, County Wicklow, having a day's inter club competition which they usually win! Also we have inter club home & away with Lochgilphead Angling Club.
There is a junior section in the club, usually the young start with bubble float & worm & then onto the bubble & fly being encouraged to take up fly fishing and fly tying with a fun day outing arranged for the very young every year.
Our club house has a meeting room & workshop which is used to repair the boats in the offseason with a further compound for storing the boats and trailers. We are always looking for members to help out with the repairs and upkeep of the club house and boats.
A full turn-out of the membership of the original Oban Angling Club 1949
